Cup Day at the Guildford Pub
Punters’ Lunch

“Gentlemen and boys over 13 years of age are required to wear a collared shirt and tailored pants with jacket, sports coat or blazer, plus a tie, at all times. However, from the 1st November until 30th April jackets may be removed.
Ladies and girls over 13 years of age are expected to maintain a suitable standard of dress in keeping with that expected of the gentlemen and the distinction of the Members’ Reserve.”
Entertainment will be provided by the Mysterious Mose Jug Band.

Our next local history in story, the fourth in the series, will focus on stories relating to the creeks.
On the afternoon of Sunday November 9th , we will hear from memory keepers Eric and Joy Sartori, Lawrence and Paul Righetti, Beth and Ric Higgins as well as Greg Pridmore. The gathering will take place on private property so numbers will be limited to people living in Yandoit, Franklinford and Clydesdale or with historical connections to the area. RSVP is essential to Nikki Marshall (mobile: 0432 232 073, nikki.marshall@oases.edu.au). On registration, location details will be provided. BYO folding chair. Assistance will be provided for those who may have difficulty walking.

The two day Sheep Dog Trials is a showcase of Australia’s top working sheep dogs. They compete for the highest score to be eligible for the National Title. Food and refreshments available. Adults $4, children free.

Chopped is drag racing where it started in the dirt! A throw back in time to a 1950s/60s HopUp Carnival! Hundreds of cars and bikes rattled by the sounds of 25+ bands belting the roots of rock music to thousands of Rockers, Petrol Heads, Hipsters & Greasers
Head to head two-lane Dirt Drags with Pre 65 style Hot Rods, Customs, Bobbers & Choppers. Full throttle Vintage Speedway sliding and colliding. American infused island drinking in tiki’s, palms and bamboo.

What you have done is very irresponsible. Use your tip tickets. Now go and pick it up and do the right thing. If anyone sees you picking it up, just say, “Oh, I realised it wouldn’t burn, so I thought I should just take it down the tip”. Then you will be a hero.
It’s not quite Guildford Folk Club week – the date for the next Folk music night is Wednesday October 15th. I’ll send another reminder next week!
However, I want to encourage you to make the short and easy trip out to Guildford for some of the other great music which new publican Allan is putting on at the Guildford Hotel. The food I hear is delicious, and they have some great wines and beers for sale.

Sunday 5th October: Spend a pleasant lunchtime and afternoon listening to the songs of one of our own folk club and ukulele divas, JUDY WARREN.
Also on Sunday afternoon/evening is the last-for-the-year NEWSTEAD VOCAL NOSH. It’s in the Newstead Community Centre – arrive at 5.45pm so the singing can get started right on time at 6pm. Adult entry still $15, or $12 concession, or $5 for children (includes a healthy meal). Leader will be Fay White, taking you through some of the year’s most popular songs. No experience necessary. ”Our local, Loddon River Powerful Owls have raised two youngsters again this season. Last year was a mystery – the birds were about but no young were seen. We are so lucky to have this incredible predator breeding successfully so close to town. The possums must be running scared at the moment!”

I have a couple of desktop computers here (box only, no monitor), which I will make available for free extended loan. So if your computer dies, or gets infected with something disgusting, you can have one of these until you get it fixed or replaced. They are not quite state-of-the-art, but more than adequate for net-surfing, email, word processing (with Libre-Office), etc.. Use your own monitor, keyboard and mouse if you can, otherwise I might be able to supply.
