”Don Morrison is still milking cows at the age of 83 alongside his son Robert and twenty-three year old grandson, Nick”.
You’d think they would let him retire!
Good read…

We have had the misty rainbow on yandoit.net as a header image for quite some time now, so I am thinking it is time to change it.
So I am calling for submissions for a new image. It could be a single image photo or artwork, or a collage. Bear in mind the long narrow shape of the image, and that the text you now see would be overlaid on the image, so the upper left should be either light, as it is now, or dark, and I could change the text colour to a light colour.
Contact me if you think you have something. Photos taken on a reasonably modern smartphone, or a digital camera, or scanned from a print, should be of suitable quality.
Thank you to all who attended the Yandoit Trade Fair today and added their skills to the skills register. Skills posts are now ordered alphabetically by title on the Skills Page.
To find a particular skill, either browse the Skills Page or use the Search box (upper right on all pages).
Music will be provided by Maurie Gervasoni, Greg and Helen O’Leary and John Ross – traditional and old-time dance tunes, Australian songs and more.
It’s on again! A relaxed and homely weekend of entertainment all over the village of Guildford, from Friday night until Sunday evening.

But don’t forget the Trade Fair at the Yandoit Hall on Sunday, 10am-1pm.
From Nikki:
”I received an email today from one of our ward councillors, Bill McClenaghan, advising that an error has occurred at the printers, who are contracted by Hepburn Shire to print and post out all rates notices, info sheets and free tip vouchers. The printers incorrectly applied the agreed allocation of free tip vouchers in reverse to Council’s intention.
As a consequence those receiving the new kerbside collections have been sent twelve free tip vouchers instead of two and those who opted out, or who were not in the service areas, have been sent only two free tip vouchers instead of twelve.
Cr. Bill McClenaghan assures that this error will be sorted out soon. Council’s contractors have accepted responsibility for this error and will be contacting everyone affected by it to explain. Residents will receive the correct number of vouchers printed in another colour. The orange vouchers are now null and void and should be discarded in your recycling.
In the meantime existing tip vouchers for 2014 – 2015 are still valid until their expiry date in about a month’s time.”
(I have just been watching ”Utopia” on ABC… I don’t suppose that is relevant).
Damn, I’ll have to clean out the shed in the next four weeks after all.
Dear Chroniclers and Netists, I have an apology to make: Margaret Hazler has been a member of the Yandoit Park and Recreation Committee for at least thirty years and has been of invaluable assistance to the Community of Yandoit for her long residence here and her involvement in the Hall committee and numerous community events. Unfortunately I omitted her name. I unreservedly apologise for this omission and will place an apology in the next Chronicle. Regards Bill O’Donnell
Combined Hepburn Shire Ward and Hepburn Health Meeting, July 30th.
Residents of Yandoit, Clydesdale, Franklinford and Shepherd’s Flat are invited to hear from Hepburn Health about what services they provide and to let them know our health needs. Hepburn Health have been surveying the Shire and now it’s our turn. We’ll also learn about
- the Home and Community Care (HACC) program operated by the Shire and planned changes for next year
- mobile phone black spot location plans;
- kerbside rubbish collection rollout; and
- rubbish facilities for those who opted out of kerbside collection.
Come along with your ideas and suggestions.
In my view, installing solar panels on the hall would be a waste of money. The reason being that the return on investment would be negligible. The hall has very little use during the day. The feed-in tariff for solar … Continue reading
I am informed of the sad passing of Peter Ellis following a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Peter Nicalous Ellis of Bendigo (b 1946) has been an avid collector and instructor of traditional and old time social dances and the relevant music in Australia since late 1970s. He has presented numerous workshops in both areas in several states and at many folk festivals including the National, Maldon, and Port Fairy.
Also a historian on the early social dance and music, he regularly provided articles and photographic material for Trad & Now magazine.
He was a member of the Wedderburn Oldtimers Orchestra (since 1979, led his own Emu Creek Bush Band since 1983, founded the Bush Dance & Music Club of Bendigo and through the auspices of both, who work hand in glove together, has produced numerous recordings.
Much of his knowledge has come from a close acquaintance with the late Harry McQueen of Castlemaine.
Publications include the Collector’s Choice series in 3 Volumes, Music Makes Me Smile (music and dances of the Nariel Valley), The Waltz, the Polka and all kinds of Dance Music and The Merry Country Dance. He has also made extensive collections for the National Library of Australia and his section on dance is said to be the most extensive.
Peter was a Laboratory Technician (Chemistry) and worked at LaTrobe University Bendigo and its former Technical College and CAE as well as local Secondary Colleges. He retired in 2012 from Bendigo Senior Secondary College.
Peter was known in our area through his association with the old-time dances at the Yandoit Hall.
He made a difference and will be sorely missed.

The phascogale returns for a look, but it appears the nestbox is occupied by two sugar gliders.
Is is worth it?
Extra expense, on top of your already high rates, for half a waste collection service, and loss of ALL tip tickets.
The take-home message from this is, as the real-estate people say, “build it and they will come”. Nest boxes work, and provide valuable habitat. Natural hollows take so long to form, so it is worthwhile to build the odd little house for our marsupial and avian friends. This nest box has been up several years now, but within a month of installation, it had been occupied by gliders.
I captured this infra-red footage of a brush-tailed phascogale and a sugar glider visiting the same nest box on my property last weekend…
First the phascogale…
Now the glider, on the previous night…
I don’t know what was going on there: was the phascogale preying on the glider’s young?
